Standing Committee Report suggests changes in the New Urea Policy
Jan 02:   8The Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers submitted a report which seeks to increase indigenous urea production, promote energy efficiency in urea production, and reduce subsidy burden on the central government.
8The Committee noted that 25 gas based urea plants are facing difficulties as higher investment is required to achieve target energy norms.
8A report submitted by PDIL stated that certain fertiliser units will either suffer losses or not achieve the energy targets under the New Urea Policy.
8According to the report, the total daily requirement of urea manufacturing units is 48-49 MMSCMD. However, the domestic gas allocation is limited in the country. The Committee has also recommended that at least 31.5 MMSCMD should be supplied to the urea units.
