Manoj Misra applies for Kribhco MD's slot: It has now become a two-horse race

Aug 20: It is learned from Kribhco sources that Manoj Misra has applied for the slot of MD in Kribhco. His application was received well before the August 11, 2019 deadline
8With four years behind him as CMD of NFL, he outguns Kribhco's well liked finance director Ranjan Choudhury, who is the only other eligible internal candidate, in terms of experience of running a large fertilizer company.
8Misra has a lot to preen about in his biodata. He has been able to vastly expand NFL's footprint in the four years he has been at the helm of the company: sales are expected to touch around 6 million tonnes in 2019-20 from around 3.7 million tonnes in 2015-16. The incremental sales is out of imported urea. When Ramagundam comes into production, sales will swing up by an extra 1.3 million tonnes. This would mean that sales would have doubled since he joined NFL.
8Then again, NFL has been very aggressive is selling decontrolled fertilizers, sales are going to touch 1 million tonnes this year from nearly nothing in 2015-16.
8Misra has successfully used global tenders for import of DAP, instead of the traditional MOU route, pushing down prices and setting benchmark DAP import prices not just for India but globally while at the same time expanding his marketing network to the North East and the South.
8Juxtaposed against Misra is Choudhury, who has been finance director in Kribhco for six years. He is well liked within the company, and he has been credited with astutely managing the finances of the cooperative through stressful periods.

Distress amongst urea units-I: No money for energy saving, says this company

Aug 20: Ammonia-Urea Energy Saving Project
8Cost - Rs 250 crore
8Project Event: The fact that all is not well within the subsidy-driven urea industry is evident from the inability of this company to go ahead with its ammonia-urea energy saving project. It just does not have the money for it. As per new energy norms of the government, the company's already dire situation will worsen when it begins paying penalties for non-conformance. Delayed payment of subsidy and consequent higher working capital loans have caused many urea companies to report cash flow problems, so much so that even their basic upgradations are now being ignored.

Distress amongst urea units-II: NFL sends an SOS to the goverment

Aug 20: It is not just any ordinary cash strapped urea company which seems to be falling behind in pushing through its energy saving investment, a company as big as NFL has not bee able to do it on time.
8NFL has now made an ardent plea for extension of the current energy norms for the period from FY2021 to FY2025 for the Nangal, Bhatinda and Panipat plants. Alternatively, the company has requested for a one-time capital subsidy pay out to recover the investment in the energy savings projects and reduce reliance on debt.
8This will ensure the company’s ability to maintain cash inflows from its urea operations and service the debt related to the capex
