What is the VBC Group all about?

The VBC group was originally a bottling franchisee of Coca Cola. The group was started by Dr.M.V.V.S. Murthi, a former member of Parliament.
8The bottling unit was later sold to Coca Cola and the group then set up a ferro alloy manufacturing unit.
8Instead of being known as the Vizag Bottling Company, the promoters rechristened it as VBC Industries Ltd in 1987.
8The company then went on the make Ammonium Nitrate Prills, primary for the primarily for the mining industry, with technical assistance from Norsk Hydro and UHDE
8Subsequently, it diversified into the education sector and set up a university by the name of Gitam University.
8From education, it went into hotels in collaboration with the Hilton Group and eventually a 460 MW power plant was set up under the style of Konaseema Gas Power Ltd.
8The Grouip has fingers in many pies, and fertilizers seem to be one of them now.

Founded in 1967, the Vizag Bottling Company (VBC) is the parent company of the Konaseema Group, VBC, started by Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi ( former Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and the founder member of the Group) was engaged in bottling & distribution of soft drinks under the franchise of Coca Cola.
8VBC transited from a Private Limited to a Public Limited Company in 1986. In 1998, as part of global business strategy, the Bottling division was acquired by Coca Cola.
8In 1981, the company diversified to Ferro Alloys manufacturing unit at Rudraram, 30 KMS from Hyderabad. In order to reflect the diversified business activities of Vizag Bottling Company Ltd the name was rechristened to VBC Industries Ltd in 1987.
8In 1990, the company further diversified to chemical business by setting up a plant at Srikakulam a backward district of A.P. to manufacture Ammonium Nitrate Prills, primarily for the mining industry, with technical assistance from Norsk Hydro, Norway and UHDE GmBH, Germany. The journey had begun.
