World's largest phosphoric acid plant was inaugurated in Jordan

IFFCO's joint venture phosphoric acid plant -- dubbed as the Jordan India Fertilizer Company (JIFCO) -- at Eshidiya in Jordan was inaugurated by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee last week. This is the world's largest phosphoric acid plant built at a cost of $860 million. 8Dr. U. S. Awasthi, Dy. Chairman of the JV and Managing Director & CEO of IFFCO, said the inauguration of the plant proves the true partnership between Jordan and India, the outcome of which is the establishment of Jordan India Fertilizer Company (JIFCO). 8He explained that India, being an agriculture based country, needs very large quantities of chemical fertilizers, adding that there are no significant reserves of Rock Phosphate in India and the country is entirely dependent on import of rock phosphate, phosphoric acid and also phosphatic fertilizers. 8IFFCO also announced a grant of 1,00,000 Jordanian Dinars to Queen Alia’s fund to support education in Jordan as it’s commitment towards society & people & will also support local community for education & other development purposes.

JIFCO’s Phosphoric Acid plant was inaugurated on 10thOctober 2015 jointly by Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee and HM King Abdullah of Jordan at Eshidiya, Jordan. It is to be noted that this is world’s biggest phosphoric acid plant built at a cost of $860 million. The function was attended by Dr. U S Awasthi, MD-IFFCO & Dy Chairman-JIFCO, Mr.K L Singh, Director-Technical, Mr. Manish Gupta, Director-JV & Strategy, IFFCO and officials from JIFCO.
The joint venture between IFFCO and JPMC plant, which was conceived in 2007, is now operational in the town of Eshidiya in southern Jordan. Following the Inauguration, Chairman of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), Amer Al-Majali, said, in a speech before the leaders of the two countries, that the company has adopted a strategy to convert rock phosphates into added-value products nationally and in partnership with the world also as largest producers and consumers of fertilizers. Indeed, this is an industrial venture that benefits both of our countries economies and peoples along with these two companies.

Dr. Awasthi further said that setting up the Project in the deserts of Eshidiya in Jordan had great challenges for construction and commissioning. JIFCO team, with the support of its promoters, JPMC and IFFCO have been able to successfully commission the Plant and continue its effort to stabilize the operations for greater capacity utilizations and efficiencies. Yet, during the first year of commissioning in 2015, JIFCO is expected to operate the Plant above 80% capacity, which is a land mark in Phosphoric Acid industry worldwide.\" He added that IFFCO has deputed a large contingent of experts and experienced engineers & technicians from its plants in India to support the Project and subsequent plant operations. JIFCO has recruited fresh graduates and diplomas in engineering and training them for operations and maintenance of the Plant.
