Monsoon monitor: Kharif crop cultivation is 0.2% higher than last year

The overall area under cultivation for the season till date is 1041.7 lakh hectares, which is considerably higher than the normal area sown of 1005.1 lakh hectares for this period of the season.
8Total area under cultivation for coarse cereals is 174.3 lakh hectares which are 4% lower compared with 2017 and is also lower than the normal as of the date of 181.1 lakh hectares. The area sown for pulses is 134.4 lakh hectares, which is 2.2% lower than in 2017; however, it remains higher than the normal as of date level (116.7 lakh hectares). Sowing for oilseeds has risen by 2.8% for the same period, The acreage for oilseeds, however, is lower this year.
8The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over the central and eastern region of the country, this week. Despite moderation of the monsoon activity over the southern states of the country, the current live storage of the 31 major reservoirs in the region is the highest of all regions at 81% (of the total storage capacity of these reservoirs).
8The current live storage of the 91 major reservoirs in the country is 121.7 BCM, which is 75.5% of the full storage level of these reservoirs.
